Candid Moments

She loves sticking that tongue out when she is concentrating on something (a habit her daddy has).

We are enjoying Annmother being here and helping out. Hunter has been going to school during the day. This helps get his "injuries" (energy) out. He comes home and still has plenty of "injuries" left, but winds down a lot faster.

1st Doctor's Visit

Our first doctor's visit was on August 26th. Of course, I had to put her in one of my dresses that was saved by Nannie. Her doctor's name is Dr. Needle. The visit went really well. When we left the hospital she weighted 8lbs. 5 oz. Now she weighs 8lbs 13 oz. She is gaining weight and looking healthy. She even had her first bottle while we were there. Annmother was excited to give that to her. We aren't due back for another visit until the beginning of October.

Our 1st Walk on 20th Street

We have always loved walking at night. We usually walk down to the end of the street and look for alligators, fish, and throw rocks in the canal. I decided to attempt a walk with the boys. Mackenzie loved being outdoors and being bundled up in the Baby Bjorn.

Pretty in Pink

Our little angel!
Check out my bow :)

Lookin' pretty in pink.

I didn't think I would want to have a whole lot of pink around. However, I have enjoyed dressing her up in pink and putting bows in her hair. In fact in the hospital, they put her in a blue nightgown. I asked if they had any pink ones and they did not. I immediately called Annmother and asked her to bring a few pink gowns up the hospital on her next visit. I didn't think I would be bothered by her wearing blue, but for some reason I am. I love having a girl and am eating up every moment of it!!!

1st Bath

Hunter being a little hesitant about helping out.
Not so sure he likes her belly button.
He is starting to show some interest.
I am very proud of her beautiful hair. God gave her some natural highlights.
After a few days at home I knew I needed to give Mackenzie her 1st bath. I was nervous and wanted to put it off until Hunter was in school, but at the same time I wanted him to help me. So, I bit the bullet and had Hunter help me give Mackenzie her 1st sponge bath at home. He was interested at first, but after a few moments he wanted to wash the dishes instead. Mackenzie did really well. Her bath reflected Hunter's first bath. She cried while being sponged off, but loved having her hair washed. The sensation of water running over her head was very soothing. Hunter was a little disturbed about her crying, but was really helpful. When I uncovered her umbilical cord, he stepped back and said he was "scared of that". It was quite funny. Adam and Annmother were present, but behind the cameras. The bath was over within a few minutes and I was able to overcome the nerves.

Settling In

Hanging out together
Hunter holding Mackenzie for the first time.

1st time in her bed (she was only there for a few minutes)

We are enjoying having Mackenzie apart of our family. She has been a delightful baby. Hunter hasn't paid much attention to her. He has done really well in adjusting to having her around and sharing the attention. I love having our complete family at home.

Coming Home

The coming home outfit was handed down from Nannie. She has held on to every dress and I'm excited to be using them. This dress was one that I had when I was little. The shoes were also a family heirloom. The bonnet is one that can turn into a handkerchief and she can carry the day of her wedding as her "something old".
Adam looking forward to getting home.
It just seems like yesterday we were bringing Hunter home. Amazing how time flies!

Our welcome home surprise!

Glad to be home!

Mackenzie was born on Friday, August 20th. The doctor had mentioned me possibly going home on Sunday, but could stay till Monday. As crazy as it may sound, I opted to stay an extra day. The last few months have been a little hectic and I actually was enjoying the quiet hospital room and bonding with Mackenzie. I hated putting Adam through another night of the uncomfortable pull-out bed, but he completely understood my need to have one more day.
We were discharged and home around noon. Hunter was in school and that gave us plenty of time to get settled before he came home. When we arrived, we were greeted with a "Welcome Home" sign and balloons from Hunter. He had a little help ;) Around 4 Hunter came home. He was so proud of the front door. The sign is now hanging in his room. He didn't take much notice to Mackenzie being around, but I'm sure it will take time. It is good to be home and have my little ones under one roof.

Meeting the Family

Our first family photo.
Mackenzie meeting her Annmother and Pops for the first time.

Hunter's first kiss for Mackenzie.

Hunter isn't to sure what to think.

Pops holding Mackenzie for the first time.

Meeting Mackenzie

After the c-section, I was in recovery for about an hour. Mackenzie was in the nursery under observation as well. I was moved to a room a little after 11am. After getting me settled in the room, Hunter, Annmother, and Pops arrived. Hunter was really concerned about all of the "wires" coming from me. He was concerned about my "boo boo" and did really well to make sure he was careful. Mackenzie was brought into the room a few minutes later. Hunter really didn't know what to make of her. He was excited, but didn't want to get to close. Finally, he climbed up in the bed with us. Annmother and Pops were excited to meet her for the first time. Due to the medication, I don't remember a whole lot about that first few hours. Later that night everyone came back to visit again. I was pumping with adrenaline, but was so tired at the same time. I had a hard time keeping my eyes open that 1st day.

The Birth of Mackenzie Claire Boyd

We had to label him just so that everyone knew he was "Mackenzie's Dad"
Cool outfit!!! I think we kept it for Halloween this year :)
She is finally here. I knew she was going to be a good size baby.
Our little angel
It is amazing that she was bundled up inside my belly just a few minutes before.
Saying "Hello" to our newest blessing.

Resting a little before she meets the family.
Mama's little lady.
I can't believe that 9 months have come and gone. The past 4 months have seemed like a whirl wind of events. We are happy to call Naples, Florida, our home again and bring our little baby girl into the world in such a beautiful city.

The morning of the c-section, August 20th, I was rather calm. I set my alarm for 5:15 am, took a shower, and started getting ready for the big day. We arrived at the hospital at 7am and had to sit in the waiting room for a few minutes due to our nurse having a last minute birth. Once we were back in the pre-op area, my nerves started to rise. Adam is an amazing husband and can tell when I need him to calm me. After putting on the lovely gown and getting my IV, I was ready to go. Adam received his lovely attire. We were trying to decide on what to put on his hat, we had a few funny ideas, but decided to go with "Mackenzie's Dad".

Surgery was scheduled for 8:30am, but they were running a little behind. I finally was pulled into the OR at 8:40am. Adam had to stay in the waiting area while I was prepped for surgery. My nerves started getting the better of me as I sat in the OR and watching everyone around me getting ready for surgery. Then in walked Micheal, my anesthesiologist. He was a cute older man that had a comedic act that put me at ease. Once the spinal started to take, I laid down and action quickly started to take place. Adam was brought into the room at 9:10am. Once the c-section began, my nerves and tears started to build. Micheal asked if he could put on some music. He put on some classical music. With Adam holding my hand and the music in the background, my nerves were calmed. Finally, at 9:19am, Mackenzie was born. Adam was asked if he wanted to see her coming out and he quickly stood to look over the "curtain". He sat down, but within 1 second decided to take a second look. He was braver this time than he had been with Hunter. He later told me that it was something he didn't ever care to see again. I was just sitting there waiting for him to pass out. I'm very glad he didn't. The doctors and nurses were amazed at how big she was. After, what seemed like forever, I heard her cry. I was anxious to find out how much she weighed. Finally it was announced, 9 lbs. and 1 oz. She was 18 inches long. I was amazed...she weighed the EXACT amount as Hunter. Except Hunter was 21 inches long. I automatically new she was a cute "chunky monkey". Once she was cleaned up, she was brought over to us and we were able to meet her for the first time. After that she was whisked away to be taken to the nursery for observation. Adam followed her and met me in the recovery room once I was finished.
It is amazing how 9 months of anticipation can build up and then in a blink of an eye it is here and gone. We are so blessed to have 2 amazingly healthy babies. Thank you Lord for a safe delievery and a healthy baby. Now to begin our lives with Mackenzie Claire apart of or family.

Our Last Night @ Home

Pops and Annmother have arrived. Tonight we had a family dinner and then the men went out to ride bikes with Hunter. When they came back we opened some gifts from family and friends from TN. Hunter had a good time helping and hiding in the tissue.
This week has been a whirl wind of events. I went back to work at Sabal Palm full-time this week getting the classroom ready for the kids. I haven't worked full time since May of 2009. It was good to see everyone and be back in the classroom. Even though I'm exhausted, I am glad that I went to work this week. I think it kept my mind off of the c-section. I also think I would have run circles around the house and been cleaning up my own mess had I been at home. Going to work was a bit of adjustment for Hunter. He did fine, but every morning he had to make sure he gave me at least 10 hugs and kisses. Then followed up with giving Mackenzie 10 hugs and kisses. He has been so precious during this pregnancy. We finished off the night with a beautiful rainbow in the sky and Hunter yelling, "Thank you for the beautiful rainbow God." I have to thank God also for such a wonderful husband and son. Stay tuned for the main attraction...

Makin' Muffins

Hunter has really wanted to be apart of cooking lately. We had bought some zuccini and decided to make some zuccini muffins. He is a really good help in the kitchen. I love having the extra help in the kitchen.

Family Time

Hunter's new hat :)

Only a few days left until Mackenzie arrives. This past weekend we went and took a dip at Kevin and Jayme's house. Hunter had a blast in the pool. He is turning into a little fish. That afternoon there was a bad storm. Callie HATES storms and was curled up with Hunter and Adam on the couch.

Beach Goers

Chillin'
Mackenzie and I enjoying the beach.

Hunting for shells.

We love the beach. Today we went to the beach a little earlier than normal due to the heat. It was perfect. We set up camp in the shade. Every time we go Hunter decides to spend his time differently. Sometimes he spends most of his time in the water, others building sandcastles, and others making roads with his truck. He hasn't ever really taken to hunting for shells. Today Hunter decided he wanted to hunt for shells. We ended up taking a bucket full home. Adam and I were trying to find rhyme or reason for the ones he was picking, but I think he was just trying to clear the beach. We brought them home and cleaned them up. Now we have to figure out a way to have these disappear from our house. We might start a shell garden somewhere in our yard. It was good to go to the beach. Not sure when we are going to be visiting it again, but we love being this close to it.

Sun-N-Fun Lagoon

With very few days left until I go to work and Mackenzie being born on the 20th, we are taking advantage of our family time. Today we went to Sun-n-Fun Lagoon, our local water park, for a few hours. Hunter loves going. His favorite places are the Tadpole Pool, the "Waterfall Pool" (Hunter's special name for the pool), and the "Crazy River" (again, his own name for the Lazy River). We had a great time!

Summer Playdates

This summer we have had fun meeting our friends every Thursday to play. This last week we went to The Milfort's home. With good food, a jump house/slide, and her Aunt Jean doing face painting the kids had a blast. Hunter was a little skeptical on having his face painted so she did a painting on his arm. When asked if she could do anything with McQueen from Cars, she wasn't familiar with the movie or the character. I was amazed at how talented she was. She free handed a picture of McQueen by looking at a picture. McQueen's new home on Hunter's arm lasted a couple of days. Thanks to the Milfort's for a great time.
