Whew...what a crazy week! Trying to get cards out, gifts wrapped, teacher treats, and last minute shopping done on top of cleaning, laundry, and packing...craziness! We had school up until Wednesday with Christmas on Sunday. Talk about cutting it close. After school, I jetted home, jumped in the shower, packed the car, and was on the road by 4:30pm. We picked up the kids at school and hit the road.
This is our first experience with an all night trip. Adam did take off of work to rest. The kids did well, but Hunter woke up around midnight asking if we were in Tennessee yet. Mackenzie was really restless on and off the whole night. Needless to say, as we pulled into Nashville Adam and I were exhausted. As we pulled onto Nesbitt, I called mom. She greeted us at the door. Hunter was ecstatic!!! Nannie had a basket of goodies waiting for him on the table. He immediately wanted to start crafting. The gingerbread train was his first option, but Nannie and I decided that 4:30 am was a little too early for that task. We told him that we would tackle that during one of Mackenzie's naps. After the excitement wore off for Mackenzie and myself, we headed to bed for a "short winter's nap". Immediately when we went downstairs, Hunter looked at Nannie and said, "Mackenzie is taking a nap. Can we make the choo-choo train now?" We woke up around 8 to find a finished gingerbread train in the middle of the kitchen table. Hunter's grin was priceless. The kids spent the remainder of the day playing and resting at Nannie's house. Adam and I did get out for a little while to do some last minute shopping and lunch. By the end of the day, we were ready for some rest. It is good to be home.
